Who doesn’t like a dope pair of retro basketball kicks? These Nike Air Penny 2 Varsity Blue definitely add to that mid-90s bball vibe in the collection.
The shoes are a retro of a pair that released in 2011 exclusively for Solecollector magazine. Here we have a wider release which adds more 1 cent Penny branding.
Black and blue is a classic combo and is easily paired with a black or otherwise dark outfit. I’d avoid light wash or colored pants with these. I would only wear blue denim if the color seemed to jive with the shoe – otherwise I’d avoid that as well.
There’s enough blue on these that they kind of remind me of a precursor to the Royal Foamposite. My collection had been devoid of non-foam Pennys, so I’m glad to welcome these back into the mix! Shoutout Penny Hardaway for having some of the most iconic shoes out there besides Michael Jordan!
How Are The Materials?
The materials on these are ok. You have a nubuck upper for the most part, which has a typical Nike Sportswear feel to it. Not stellar, but not shabby either. Overall the craftsmanship seems passable on these. I would grab these more for aesthetic than materials.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Air Penny 2 Varsity Blue fit true to size. I’ve found these to be extremely comfy if not a bit snug.
